Exploring the Keys - Key West and Marathon

We made it to the Southernmost tip! Let’s see if we can make it to the other most points!

I’ve always heard how amazing the Keys are and we wanted to check them out for ourselves. Wow! They didn’t disappoint. We heard we were lucky to come during COVID as it wasn’t as crowded.

Key West was the only place where I saw strict mask requirements. Even the police were patrolling the streets and reminding everyone to put on their masks as it was the only way they were going to stay open. We saw signs that said, “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Mask - No Service”

My best friend Traci came to visit me! We first met in college and then when I moved to Richmond, VA, we rekindled our acquaintance to a close friendship. We had such a great time together.

Jeff and Traci found the best Key Lime Pie and devoured it. While we were there, we found a manatee seeking fresh water from a fisherman.

We explored the Marathon area by bike and found some nuggets.

We did yoga, relaxed by the pool. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard. It was a wonderful experience. This is where I discovered the Keys Salt Scrub.

One more I got up early to catch the sunrise. What I really got was real-life sky painting. Absolutely amazing!

After Traci returned home, Jeff and I decided to return the following weekend to check out Key West and the Dry Tortugas.

It was neat to find a Detroit sticker especially since I used to work in Detroit. Of course, I usually capture a bike on my walks. I wish we would have brought our bikes. Parking is very expensive. Upper left is Ernest Hemingway’s Home. There are lots of chickens and roosters running freely.
