Desert Goddess Branding Session in Phoenix, Arizona

My friend Laura Dillon Rogers Photography flew in from Charlottesville, Virginia, and we did a creative weekend play. She has a different style than mine, and it was fun to collaborate creatively with her.

I found Lia through Instagram; she is a dancer, choreographer, yoga instructor, singer/songwriter, and Jiu Jitsu. She was fan-static to work with. I loved that Lia brought this gold tulle that she played with.

We created a Mood Board with inspirational images using FreeForm (a free Apple app). We photographed in Parago Park in Phoenix, Arizona. It was the first night of the full moon, and in the distance, we could hear a new moon ceremony with the steady beat of a drum.

Lia’s branding words convey what she wanted to accomplish with her branded portraits.

  • Capturing Movement

  • Mysterious

  • Feminine

  • Powerful

  • Luminous

  • Sacred/”The Source'“

  • Womanhood

  • Nature herself

  • Siren

  • Dark/Light

  • Yin/Yang

I learned a lot collaborating with Lia and Laura. Popping a little light with my Profoto strobes was fun. This ensured Lia showed up with the beautiful backlighting.

I think it was a great success, and Lia looks like a Desert Goddess to me!
