Face to Face with a Young Buck in Micanopy, FL

Buckeye, the young wild and slightly tame buck. He’s free to leave anytime but he choses to stay with the horse.

I love horses and there was a gray Quarterhorse mare in the field and lo and behold, what did we see with her? Is that really a young buck?!

It truly was!

Robyn, the owner of the QH mare, named Stella said the young buck had made friends with the horse and just stuck around. We saw people stop and pet the Buckeye on their way to work and they said this was the best part of their day. It is amazing how much joy an animal can bring. It can be the ‘simple things. ‘

We needed two nights in between Navarre and Clearwater, Florida. I found a resident offering her land for $25 a night. (You can easily pay $50 a night for most campsites). Usually, we like to stay at Harvest Hosts but there weren’t any in our path. This was 10 minutes off of I-75.

We love being in nature and Robyn invited us back to visit which we will do as we head back north to go west.

Next stop, Clearwater to see my parent’s long-time friends from college.

Those antlers are real! Buckeye pointed them towards me whenever Robyn was near. He must have felt protective of her. Fortunately, I never got hurt by them.

It was fun to feed the ducks. We really enjoyed the animals all around us!

We parked down the hill from Robyn’s home giving us all kinds of privacy. That’s our Grand Design Reflection 300RBTS

The Sand Hill Cranes announced their arrival and I quickly grabbed my camera.

We took a walk in the woods. Swamp land was nearby and no telling what lurked in the shadows.

Wild Turkeys surrounded our RV one morning. They quickly dispersed into the woods when we opened our door.

These goats are the next door neighbor’s. The baby goats are so adorable.

We really enjoyed our bike rides too.

Abbey is Robyn’s cute dog. Jeff got to cut down a tree so he was excited to chainsaw. We biked a few loops around Micanopy including the Barr Hammock Preserve. We love being able to go on and off-road with our Specialized Diverge Gravel Grinders.
