The Big Easy - Our Time in New Orleans

Louis Armstrong’s Park in New Orleans

I wasn’t a big New Orleans fan. I had gone there in the mid-’90s for a neurosurgery conference when I worked at the Cleveland Clinic. I mostly remember the stuffed alligator heads in the gift shops. I don’t drink so Bourbon Street doesn’t appeal to me.

Well, I was in for a surprise! I loved New Orleans and I was thankful to come during COVID when there weren’t a lot of tourists. Of course, I missed the live music and the jazz. But what I love to do the most is to wander and take pictures, so that’s what we did!

I tried to take a photo walk tour by the Savvy Native but that was closed due to COVID. I talked to the gentleman that runs it and he was very helpful. He gave me great tips and even told me where to park.

We stayed at the Bayou Segnette State Park for 5 days. We really enjoyed it and would often hear Air Boats going by. We drove to the ferry that takes you across the river for a small fee and then walked to the French Quarter.

The people are really friendly in New Orleans and I was charmed by their hospitality. I used my Lensbaby 35 mm Burnside to capture the French Quarter.

We mostly wandered away from Bourbon Street and only crossed over it. I was enthralled with the architecture, the history and the live Oaks.

The bottom image is us taking the ferry to New Orleans.

The next day, we checked out the City Park which is one of the largest city parks in the country. I loved watching the kids enjoy the big bubbles.
